Indigenous knowledge from Tanzania : Rice hull ash for scaring pests of maize and sorghum
The rice hulls are burnt and the ash is allowed to cool. This ash is then mixed with sorghum or maize before storage. For 90 kg bag of maize 20 litre tin of ashes is used. If the rice hulls are not burnt then ratio is usually kept as 1:1 for one tin of grains one tin of un-burnt rice hull is used. Source: Bahati farmers group of Uhambule, Mbeya
